Volunteerism is a vital part of the Golden Bridges Community. Each grown-up family member is expected to volunteer 10 hours of their time per school year to support the school (10 hours per grown-up, not per household). Volunteerism lifts the entire school and builds the fabric of our community. As part of our mission to serve as a bridge between the families of Golden Bridges and the school itself, The Family Collective manages volunteer opportunities for the grown-up(s) in your family. There are a wide variety of eligible acts of service that count towards the volunteerism requirement; we take into account all backgrounds and abilities of our families.
Each grown up family member is also expected to attend at least two of the four Farm Work Days held each year. The Golden Bridges Farm is a cornerstone of our school, and participating on Farm Work Days brings families together. The Family Collective utilizes the work days as a convenient and beautiful time to connect in person and share important information, while also supporting the mammoth undertaking that is having a school farm in a dense urban environment. Whether your talents lie in actual farm work (e.g., weeding, planting, building of structures) or in other community activities (e.g. wrangling of children, cooking meals, taking photographs, playing music), there is something for everyone. However, if attending the scheduled Farm Work Days won’t work for you for any reason, there are many other avenues for community connection and communication.
