Caring for the Heart of Our School

If you’re part of a returning family at Golden Bridges School, you’ve heard of The College of Teachers. If you’re new here, allow us to introduce ourselves! We are a self-selected group of teachers representing a cross-section of the diverse academic programming offered at our school. We come together from our separate disciplines to invest collective care in the pedagogical heart of our school. From our highest ideals to the car seats in the aftercare van, we direct our attention to the big picture of running our school. Having a College of Teachers working in step with our dedicated faculty and staff enables Golden Bridges to navigate each year using horizontal organization and collaboration.

At our weekly meetings, we devote time to studying educational principles that reflect our school’s values; for example, last school year we studied Alexis Pauline Gumbs’ book Undrowned. We address questions relating to past, current and future curriculum at every level. In collaboration with the Faculty of Teachers, we ensure programming content and logistics are aligned with our educational goals and values. We network with the wider community to resource continuing education and mentoring for current teachers. We coordinate and communicate tirelessly with as many candidates as it takes to find the best new teachers for our team each year. We support students, their teachers and families, through pivotal growth moments. And we check as many administrative boxes as the hours in each day will allow. The College of Teachers chooses to take up the work as an act of service, out of our deep belief in the vital being of Golden Bridges School.

What does all of this mean for you, as guardians of students at Golden Bridges School? If you have questions about curriculum that can’t be posed to a specific teacher, we can track down the answer you are looking for. If you need support in working through a developmental moment in your child’s school experience, we can facilitate conversations and determine where help is needed. If you are wondering why some part of our learning community is the way it is, we will do our best to bring our intentions into focus.
