Golden Bridges School will prioritize in-person learning. We will be responsive when the SFDPH and CDPH determine it is safe for schools to resume in-person instruction, and we will prioritize our use of outdoor settings. While we will greatly utilize our school farm and John McLaren Park, we also have a new campus that is vast, both inside and out. Classrooms are well ventilated with multiple doors and windows in each room; there are two large outdoor spaces and many bathrooms.
Our school communal food program is suspended for the coming year. Families will need to pack a snack, lunch and water for their children each day.
Kindergarten The Kindergarten will operate fully outdoors from 8:30-1pm five days a week, using both the farm and McLaren Park. Because our Kindergarten classes have been working outdoors since our inception, the teachers are already well versed in providing a rich curriculum and social experience for the children in nature’s classroom.
The Kindergarten class, with 19 enrolled students and 3 teachers, will operate as a stable cohort, which will often break into smaller groups for activities both at the farm and in McLaren Park. If our enrollment grows to reach 24 students, we will be in a position to add a 4th Kindergarten teacher and transition to 2 Kindergarten classes, each with 12 students and 2 teachers. In this scenario, these two classes would not overlap, and would be a self-contained as two separate stable cohorts.
On or before August 17, the Kindergarten teachers will send details about your child’s class makeup, teachers, specific class schedule, and pick-up/drop-off details.
Grades Each grades class will act as a stable cohort, staying together as one unit for class, recess, lunch, farm days, and hiking. Cohorts will not overlap with one another. Each cohort will have its own bathroom on campus.
Class teachers will remain with their cohort while subject teachers will rotate cohorts, teaching up to two per day. When we begin in-person learning, the schedule for each class cohort will be as follows: 8:30 - 10:30 Main Lesson 10:30 - 11:00 Snack and Recess 11:00 - 11:45 1st Period 11:45 - 12:30 2nd Period 12:30 - 1:00 Lunch and Recess
Main Lesson will be taught in both the well-ventilated classrooms as well as on the blacktop and grades courtyard. Children will be 6 feet apart whether they are sitting at desks, on benches, or in motion during Main Lesson. As outlined in the Continuity of Education plan, each on-campus teaching area will be equipped with technology, which will allow students to participate in Main Lesson from their home. Subject classes will rotate through Spanish, Handwork, and Music. When not in Main Lesson, students will be at their designated class space at McLaren Park, which will provide a familiar environment to return to each day for experiential learning activities. Additionally, each grade will have one full farm day per week. Grades farm day will include Main Lesson, recess, and Farm Class. On farm day, drop-off and pick-up will be at the farm or Balboa Park. Each Class teacher will send the specific schedule for the class before the start of school along with specific pick-up/drop-off details.
Aftercare To start off the school year, we will not be offering any aftercare and all students will be dismissed at 1pm. As the rhythms are established, stamina is built, and the health and safety protocols are ingrained, we will consider extending the school day for the grades students and begin to offer aftercare for Kindergarteners until the grades pick-up time (either 2:30 or 3). Our aftercare offering will be re-evaluated throughout the year to best meet the most current health and safety requirements and attempt to serve the childcare needs of our families.
