Currently, our school offers Spanish as a foreign language to all grades classes, and to kindergarten when we have an available parent volunteer. Our vision is to teach two foreign languages at GBS, brought through an immersion style and with movement, storytelling and music being the main modality for experiencing the languages and thus, the cultures as well.
The Spanish program in Golden Bridges is designed around 6 central units taught primarily with music, movement and story-telling. The Spanish curriculum also features a multi-disciplinary scientific exploration of the silkworm life cycle using real worms. Each grade observes the life cycle while engaging with Spanish at developmentally appropriate levels. Additionally, there is a writing component introduced to 2nd - 4th graders. Students use a journal for practicing writing poems, sentences and observations. Read a detailed outline of the current Spanish curriculum, taught by Maestra Maria here. |
